Smail drops down leaderboard in Japan

The former New Zealand golf number one David Smail shot an even par 72 to drop out of a share of the lead at the halfway point of the Nagashima Cup in Japan.

The 41-year-old Waikato pro's in a tie with local Azuma Yano on five under, five shots off the leader, Korean Dong-Hwan Lee, who carded his second straight 67 to go a shot clear.

Danny Lee and Josh Geary are the best of the New Zealanders on the Nationwide Tour after the second round of the Nationwide Children's Hospital Invitational.

Lee shot a two under 69 and Geary a one under 70. Both are now one under overall, tied for 44th and 10 strokes behind the leader, American John Peterson.

Tim Wilkinson's 57th equal on even par.
