Sachin Tendulkar failed yet again at Lord's in what is likely to be his final test at the home of world cricket as England beat India by 196 runs in the first test.
Tendulkar, who needs only one further century to reach an unprecedented 100 international hundreds, was dismissed lbw by James Anderson for 12.
The 38-year-old has scored a world record 14,738 runs in tests but only 195 of those have been amassed at Lord's in nine innings at an average of 21.66 with a highest score of 37.
Anderson cut through India's middle order to take five for 65 and the world's top-ranked test nation was all out for 261, after being set 458 for victory.
England will overtake India in the rankings if they win the series by at least a two-match margin.
The second test starts on Friday night at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
