Donald breaks silence, still hopeful of Bath move

4:21 pm on 28 July 2011

All Black discard Stephen Donald has broken his self-imposed media blackout to confirm he's still pushing on with his move to the English club Bath.

Visa issues have delayed the confirmation of his contract with the Premiership side, but Bath are trying to get him a work permit - if the deal doesn't go through, Donald wants to remain at the Chiefs, and with Waikato.

Donald's surprised at reports he's heading north and says he hasn't even talked to the Blues - the first he heard about it was via a text from Chiefs team-mate Lelia Masaga.

He says while the move'sa possibility nothing's been discussed with the Auckland-based franchise.

Japan is a third or fourth option as he wants to keep playing rugby at a high level, but if he's to return to the Chiefs there would have to be some bridges crossed as he wouldn't want to warm the bench behind new signing Aaron Cruden.

Donald's currently suffering from a shoulder injury and won't play in Waikato's inter-divisional provincial home clash with Tasman on Friday - he's targeting the next match against Counties Manukau on Sunday week at Pukekohe.
