The Wellington golfer Mark Brown enjoyed his best result for some time on the European Tour with a tie for 11th at the Irish Open in Killarney.

Brown's closing round of 70 gave him an 8-under par total, and he finished 7 strokes behind England's Simon Dyson, who edged out Australia's Richard Green by one shot to pick up his first title in two years.

The best of Northern Ireland's three recent grand slam winners was Graeme McDowell who tied for 25th.
