New Zealand tennis number one Marina Erakovic, who has climbed 70 places to 100th in the world rankings, has qualified for the WTA tournament in Carlsbad, California with a three set win over Elena Bovina.

She'll play another Russian, the 14th seed and world number 33 Elena Vesnina, in the first round.

Erakovic is also in the main draw doubles, where she's teamed up with Australian Jarmila Gajdosova, to play Anastastia Rodionova of Austria and Ukraine's Olga Savchuk.

Meanwhile in Canada New Zealand's Sacha Jones is through to the final round of qualifying at an ITF tournament in Vancouver where she'll play Australia's Casey Dellaqua for a place in the main draw.

Marina Erakovic is back in the world's top 100 after a purple patch of form over the past couple of months.

Her career high singles ranking was 49 in 2008, but she spent much of the next two years struggling with injuries.
