The Tour de France winner Cadel Evans will return home to Australia for the first time since historic win in Paris last month.

The 34-year-old, who became the first Australian to win road cycling's biggest prize last month, will be paraded through the centre of Melbourne on Friday week.

Evans wasn't scheduled to return to Australia until the end of the year but says he's looking forward to picking up the celebrations after his triumph in Paris.
