Bonus hike for Japanese world champs

Japan's all-conquering women's football team will receive cash bonuses of nearly $100,000 each for their astonishing World Cup victory last month in Germany.

The Japan Football Association raised the bonus after the team beat the hosts before knocking out Sweden and overcoming the United States on penalties in a nail-biting final in Frankfurt.

The team will also receive the treasured People's Honour Award for giving their country a ray of hope after the deadly tsunami in March.
