Hewitt books London Games trip

7:18 am on 7 August 2011

Canterbury triathlete Andrea Hewitt has booked her Olympic Games spot next year with a sixth place in the London round of the ITU World Championship series.

Hewitt's also moved up to second in the world rankings.

No joy for the other New Zealanders in Hyde Park though, with local favourite and former world champion Helen Jenkins taking the honours.

Debbie Tanner was the next-best Kiwi in 35th with Nicky Samuels 40th. Kate McIlroy did not finish.

The team has another opportunity to qualify for the London Games at a yet to be confirmed 2012 World Championship Series event early next year.

The men race overnight with Bevan Docherty, Kris Gemmell, Ryan Sissons, James Elvery and Clark Ellice on the start line looking for a top ten finish and a nomination to London.
