Bay of Plenty have suffered their first loss in rugby's ITM Cup, going down 30-23 to Northland in a suprise result in Whangarei.

The Bay had won their first four matches in the Premiership while Northland were languishing in the bottom half of the Championship.

The Bay had made 11 changes from the side that beat Wellington and their lack of depth showed.

Both sides scored three tries each.

Bay of Plenty still top the Premiership standings, while Northland are now fourth in the Championship.
