The Liverpool football manager Kenny Dalglish says captain Steven Gerrard's groin injury isn't as bad as first feared.

The club announced last week that the injury would force Gerrard to miss the start of the English Premiership which gets underway next weekend.

Dalglish says his skipper is making good progress.

Groin surgery ended Gerrard's season in March.

Liverpool open their Premier League campaign against Sunderland and Gerrard was initially expected to miss that match along with games against Arsenal, Bolton and Stoke.
