Crusaders determined to find home venue for 2012

The Crusaders could have another Super Rugby season on the road with AMI Stadium ruled unusable in 2012 because of earthquake damage.

Engineers have recommended the Hadlee stand at the ground be demolished.

The chief executive of the Canterbury rugby union Hamish Riach says they're determined to find an alternative home for 2012 as they don't want a repeat of this year when the Crusaders had to play all their matches outside Christchurch.

He says they are negotiating with Christchurch City Council and rugby league officials about possibly using Rugby League Park in Addington, while the smaller Rugby Park and several green field sites, including one in Riccarton, are other options.

Riach says they need to decide in the next few weeks where they will be based as they need to organise temporary stands.

He says while there are plenty in the country at the moment because of the Rugby World Cup they are due to leave after that with much of the infrastructure heading to London for the Olympics.
