The Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has been ruled out of football for six weeks after suffering a hamstring injury in his side's 2-1 Premier League win at West Bromwich Albion
Ferdinand limped off in the champions' season opener and will miss United's games against title rivals Arsenal and Chelsea and England's crucial Euro 2012 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Wales.
This morning's match also provided two contrasting performances from United's high profile signings striker Ashley Young and goalkeeper David De Gea.
Young stole the show at the Hawthorns after scoring the winning goal in the 81st minute while keeper David De Gea had a night to forget after letting in an easy first half goal to let West Brom draw level.
Young however says the Spanish keeper redeemed himself in the second spell.
Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal were all held to draws in their first games while FA Cup winners Manchester City kick off against Swansea tomorrow.
