The head of the Aussie Rules competition believes a taunt about a player's mother will be the last of its kind, following the suspension of West Coast AFL player Patrick McGinnity.
McGinnity has been banned for one match and fined $3000 for derogatory on-field remarks about the mother of his Melbourne opposite.
The comments were made at the start of the halftime break and overheard by umpires, prompting an investigation.
McGinnity was charged under the AFL's code of conduct regarding respect to women.
The AFL's chief executive Andrew Demetriou says the comments were disgusting but is refusing to say what was said.
