The New Zealand kayaker Ben Fouhy has all but qualified for his third Olympics after making it through to the final of the K1 1000 at the World Championships in Hungary.

Fouhy, a former world champion and Olympic silver medalist, won his heat and finished second in his semi-final and making the final all but secures him a place in London next year.

Team manager Grant Restall says it's an amazing result for Fouhy who has gone through a lot in recent years, including retiring from the sport twice.

Meanwhile Steven Ferguson and Daryl Fitzgerald could only make the B final of the K2 1000.
