The world tennis number one Novak Djokovic is confident he'll be fit for next week's U.S. Open, despite a worsening shoulder problem that forced him to quit Cincinnati Open final against Andy Murray.

Djokovic was the overwhelming favourite to win the last grand slam of the year having lost only one previous match this year to Roger Federer in the French Open semi finals, but his preparations have been thrown into disarray because of the niggling injury.

Djokovic lost the opening set of the Cincinatti Open final 6-4 and then conceded the match to Murray, trailing three love in the second.

Djokovic, who's won two grand slam title this year, says he still expects to play at Flushing Meadows as he has a week to recover.
