Assault charge against Kiwis captain dismissed

An assault charge against Kiwis rugby league captain Benji Marshall has been dismissed at a court hearing in Sydney.

The judge ruled there was doubt over whether a fat lip suffered by the complainant, Soliman Naimey, was caused by the West Tigers captain or someone else.

Marshall denied punching Naimey, although says he did push him after he was racially abused by him.

The complainant says he was punched after he told Marshall that Broncos player Darren Lockyer was a better player.

Marshall says it's good to have the matter resolved and he can now look forward to the remainder of the NRL season.
