Tigers back Marshall after assault charges dropped

6:16 am on 25 August 2011

Wests Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys sees no need for Benji Marshall to change his off-the-field ways after an assault charge against the NRL star was thrown out in court.

Marshall was cleared yesterday of assaulting Soliman Naimey outside a Sydney McDonald's outlet in the early hours of March 5, ending a tumultuous five months for the Kiwi international, but Humphreys said the club would not warn Marshall off being out on the town late at night.

The chief executive says the club has always been proud of the way Marshall conducts himself, and nothing has changed that view one bit.

Marshall told the court he'd been racially abused by the complainant.
