The New Zealand women's hockey team has booked its place at next year's London Olympics without even hitting a ball.

The Black Sticks are assured of a spot in London along with Australian after Fiji pulled out of October's Oceania Cup qualifying series in Hobart.

The Black Sticks, who're ranked sixth in the world, were already all but assured of a place at the Games, needing only to finish in the top two of the three team tournament.

Fiji will still compete in the men's Oceania Cup next month which also involves New Zealand Australia, with the top two teams qualifying for London.
