Hurdling champion stripped of gold

There was more drama on the track at the world athletics championships last night in Daegu when the world record holder and Olympic champion Dayron Robles was stripped of his 110 metres hurdle gold medal.

Robles came into contact in the latter stages of the race with Liu Xiang causing the Chinese favourite to stumble and finish a fading third behind Robles and the American Jason Richardson.

The Chinese team lodged a successful protest and Richardson was promoted to first ahead of Liu with Britain's Andy Turner taking the bronze.

Botswana's Amantle Montsho made history by winning the womens 400 metres, giving her country its first world championship gold medal.

Japan's Koji Murofushi was the surprise winner of the mens hammer throw, and Poland's Pawel Wojciechowski won the pole vault after Australia's defending champion Steve Hooker failed to make a single clearance.
