Michael Hussey's defiant 95 provided the only real resistance as Australia were bowled out for 273 by Sri Lanka on the opening day of the first cricket test in Galle.

Spinner Rangana Herath was the pick of the Sri Lanka bowlers, dismissing Australia opener Shane Watson with his first delivery, skipper Michael Clarke and Ricky Ponting.

Hussey, fell five runs short of what would have been his 14th test century.

Former captain Ricky Ponting made 44.
