5 New Zealanders in action at World Athletics Champs today

8:31 am on 1 September 2011

There are 4 New Zealanders in action today at the World Atheltics Championships in South Korea with Nick Willis looking to qualify for the final of the 15 hundred metres.

Willis, the Olympic silver medalist, cruised through the first round with the second fastest time and should have enough experience to manage his way through tonight's semi-finals.

The top 5 in each race plus the next 2 fastest qualify for Saturday's final.

Kenyan based Jake Robertson faces a big challenge at his first major track championships.... he's ranked 29th in the field of 41 athletes for the 5000 metre heats... the first five in each of two heats plus the next five fastest will make Sunday's final. Adrian Blincoe had to withdraw because of injury.

Nikki Hamblin has her second chance to make it through to a second round after her disappointing fall in her 1500m heat... she lines up in the heats of the 800 today.

Stuart Farquhar will have to throw close to his best to qualify for the final of the javelin.
