6:20 pm on 2 September 2011

The New Zealand tennis player Marina Erakovic and her doubles partner Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand have been eliminated in the opening round at the US Open beaten 4-6, 6-3, 4-6.

Erakovic lost her first round singles match earlier in the week.

The world tennis number Novak Djokovic got a full match in but barely a full workout as he breezed past the unseeded Carlos Berlocq of Argentina 6-0 6-0 6-2 to advance to the third round of the US Open.

The Wimbledon and Australian Open champion had won his first round match when Irish qualifier Conor Niland withdrew because of food poisoning.

Djokovic will now play Russian Nikolay Davydenko.

Women's top seed Caroline Wozniacki took another step in her campaign for a first grand slam title beating Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands 6-2 6-0 to advance to the third round.
