The New Zealand equestrian Andrew Nicholson claimed second at the prestigious Burghley Horse Trials in the UK overnight despite having to deal with a deteriorating showjumping course.
Nicholson had two horses in the top five but finished second on Nereo behind Brit William Fox-Pitt after a rain-affected final round.
The world champs bronze medalist was one of the last riders to finish and had to deal with a wet and tricky course, but Nicholson was quick to dismiss the conditions as an excuse.
Fellow New Zealander's Caroline Powell and Jonathan Paget finished fourth and fifth respectively.
