Hansen optimistic about injuries

6:18 pm on 6 September 2011

The All Black assistant coach Steve Hansen says prop Tony Woodcock has a leg injury that's restricted his training for the rugby World Cup opener against Tonga on Friday night.

Hansen says they're hoping Woodcock will be okay after he felt a twinge in a hamstring he hurt about a month ago.

Meanwhile he says the injured flanker Adam Thomson's recovering well from his elbow injury and should be right for next week's match against Japan.

And Hansen says number eight Kieran Read remains on track to play in the last pool match or in the quarter-finals after he injured ankle ligaments early in the Tri Nations defeat in Brisbane.

However Hansen says the coaches haven't taken a risk by keeping him in the squad.
