Bin Hammam appeal set for next week

6:44 am on 9 September 2011

Mohamed Bin Hammam, the former head of the Asian Football Confederation, will have his appeal against a life ban for bribery heard next week.

The 62-year-old Qatari lost his position on FIFA's executive committee in July when he was found guilty of corruption for offering cash gifts to Caribbean football countries in exchange for votes in FIFA's presidential election.

The hearing in Zurich on the 15th of this month is expected to be completed on the day but it is not yet known if Bin Hammam will attend in person, or be represented by his lawyers.

Bin Hammam maintains FIFA would never have taken action against him if he was European.
