All Black's mother misses World Cup opening

The delays of up to two hours to catch a train or bus in Auckland during the buildup to the rugby World Cup caused one All Black's mother to miss the opening ceremony and the first half of the 41-10 win over Tonga.

Halfback Piri Weepu says the injured number eight Kieran Read's mum couldn't get from the packed Viaduct Basin area to Eden Park until half-time, when the All Blacks had scored four of their six tries and led 29-3.

The All Blacks have travelled to Hamilton, where they play Japan on Friday night.
