Australia burst into life in the second half to beat Italy 32-6 in their opening pool C Rugby World Cup match at North Harbour Stadium.

The sides were level at 6-6 at half-time after a torrid defensive battle for the first 40 minutes.

However the Wallabies scored four second-half tries to Ben Alexander, Adam Ashley-Cooper, James O'Conner and Digby Ioane to open up the match.

The Wallaby captain James Horwill says it was a good scrap in the first half but fortunately for his side they managed to put pressure into points in the second half.
