ANBL considers expansion plans

The Australian National Basketball league has promised a team in Brisbane, a second club in Melbourne and possibly a second club in New Zealand to join the Breakers among ambitious expansion plans for the league in the next few years.

At the season launch on Wednesday in Melbourne the new Brisbane team and a second Melbourne club were identified as priorities under a new business plan aimed at growing the leagu's footprint in all metropolitan markets.

The expansion plans are ambitious, considering all the markets earmarked except New Zealand have had failed NBL franchises in previous years.

The nine-team competition tips off on October 7th.
