NBA lockout set to take six months

8:41 am on 15 September 2011

The National Basketball Association and the players' union are poles apart in their pay dispute which could take as long as six months to resolve.

A five-hour meeting in New York has ended in a stalemate and further discussions set for tomorrow have been scrapped as the salary cap emerges as the biggest obstacle.

NBA owners claim the league lost $US300 million last season with 22 of the 30 teams in the red.
