The Canterbury fast bowler Hamish Bennett is unlikely to be available for selection for next month's tour of Zimbabwe due to a back injury.
NZC Director of Cricket John Buchanan says Bennett complained of soreness in his lower back that intensified following training.
Buchanan says following scans, the medical team has ruled out serious pathological injures such as a stress fracture.
He says Bennett is unlikely to recover in time for the tour.
The Black Caps go into camp in Lincoln next week with the tour of Zimbabwe starting on the 15th of October.
