Murray warns of tennis revolt at tough schedule

6:54 am on 21 September 2011

The British tennis star Andy Murray says the world's leading players are not afraid of going on strike unless officials heed their calls to improve the crammed tennis calendar as soon as possible.

For years athletes such as 10-times grand slam champion Rafael Nadal have complained about the punishing schedule of the tennis season, and matters came to a head during the US Open when bad weather forced players in the bottom half of the draw to play three singles matches in three days just to reach the semi-finals.

However the International Tennis Federation refute the claims, saying that the players themselves approved the current calendar only two years ago.

Murray now feels that a jam-packed schedule is no longer acceptable and the time has come for the players to revolt.
