Gillett steps into Lockyer's shoes

6:56 am on 22 September 2011

23 year old Matt Gillett looks set to play his second NRL match at five eight tomorrow night, as the man given the unenviable task of replacing Darren Lockyer.

One of the Brisbane Broncos best young prospects and the NRL's rookie of the year last year, Gillett is primarly known as a back rower, and his first game at five eighth more than a year ago was less than memorable.

Manly's favouritism has firmed for tomorrow night's preliminary final in Sydney since Darren Lockyer's decision yesterday morning not to risk playing in the match afer surgery on his broken cheekbone last Sunday.
