New Zealand golfers Bradley Iles and Tim Wilkinson are a shot off the leaders heading into the weekend at the latest US Nationwide Tour event in California.
Both men are eight under par with Bay of Plenty's Iles shooting a sizzling six under 65 opening round and Manawatu's Wilkinson matching that on his second round.
Danny Lee was disqualified after the first day.
Iles has had a lean year on the Nationwide Tour and needs to win one of the last six events to have any chance of qualifying for next year's PGA Tour.
The winner's purse this week is $US180,000, more than enough to earn Iles a place on the 2012 elite tour.
