Squash players go down in New York

The New Zealand squash players, Joelle King and Jaclyn Hawkes have fallen to the same player in the first round and quarterfinals respectively of the US$50,000 Carol Weymuller Open in New York.

Hawkes, ranked 15th in the world, was beaten in the first round of the tournament by top seed and world world number two England's Jenny Duncalf 8-11 11-6 11-8 11-5.

King won her first round contest in an upset over the sixth seed and world number eight Omneya Abdel Kawy of Egypt in a lengthy five game contest 11-3 11-7 9-11 15-17 12-10.

In the quarterfinals world number 11 King was defeated by Duncalf 11-8 11-4 11-6.
