Italy set up showdown with Ireland

6:42 pm on 28 September 2011

Italy have set up a Rugby World Cup showdown with Ireland after out-muscling the United States 27-10 in their third pool match last night in Nelson.

The Azzurri scrum secured a bonus point win with a penalty try late in the second half.

The Italian coach Nick Mallett says while it may not be attractive, a side has to play to its strenghts.

The the Italians will have to improve on a patchy performance against the Americans to have any chance of beating Ireland in Dunedin on Sunday.

Ireland have won all three of their games, but still haven't secured a place in the quarter-finals.
