Manly's unpopularity could work in their favour

6:55 am on 29 September 2011

Retired former Manly chairman Ken Arthurson believes the unpopularity of the Sea Eagles club could help them land another national rugby league premiership on Sunday.

No other club in the NRL seems to polarise the fans more than the Sea Eagles and within hours of the club winning through to the decider, Facebook pages began popping up declaring their hatred for Manly.

The Auckland Warriors are aiming to take out their first premiership title but Arthurson believes the close bond such enmity creates within Manly could work in their favour.

Arthurson says the 'us-against-them' mentality has built up and gathered momentum over the years to an extent where it

can create a siege mentality among their players.
