The New Zealand IndyCar driver Scott Dixon has pulled out of next month's V8 Supercar race on the Gold Coast.

Dixon was due to share the driving duties with fellow New Zealander Shane van Gisbergen in the Stone Brothers Racing Ford Falcon, but with his wife having recently given birth to their first child he's decided not to compete.

Dixon's been replaced by former Formula One driver and five-time Le Mans 24 Hours winner, Emanuele Pirro.

Pirro, who at 49 will be the oldest driver in the field, was a regular competitor in the Wellington Street race during the 1980's and nineties, driving a BMW M3 to four successive wins.
