Woods to build up for Presidents Cup in Australia

7:12 am on 5 October 2011

Former world number one golfer Tiger Woods will play invitational events in Perth and Melbourne in November as he seeks to hone his game for the Presidents Cup later that month.

Woods will play at Perth's Burswood Park Golf Club on November 5 and Melbourne's Capital Golf Club two days later.

He'll then head to Sydney for the Australian Open at The Lakes the week before the Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne.

The 14-time major winner, who has spent much of the year battling knee and achilles injuries, hasn't won a tournament since the 2009 Australian Masters and this week dropped out of the world top 50 for the first time in 15 years.

That meant he was not an automatic United States team selection for the Presidents Cup and only gained entry as one of Fred Couples' two captain's picks.

Woods is due to make his return to the US PGA Tour at this week's Open in San Martin, California.
