England cricket's Ashes hero of the 1980s, Graham Dilley, has died aged 52 after a short illness.

Dilley played 41 Tests for his country, and while he was regarded as one of the fastest bowlers of his generation, one of his greatest moments came with the bat when he shared a 117-run partnership with Ian Botham to help England to a thrilling victory over Australia at Headingley in 1981.

He also starred in England's 1987 Ashes series win.

Botham said he was reeling at the news, having heard only days ago Dilley had maybe two weeks to live, and he lasted only two days.
