Aitken touched by home send-off

10:01 am on 7 October 2011

The Silver Ferns coach Ruth Aitken got a standing ovation after her charges wrapped up the two-Test netball series with England with a 53-32 win in Invercargill.

It's Aitken's final home Test in the city she began the national job in 10 years ago - but she says she never thought she'd get this far after overseeing the first-ever loss to Jamaica early in her tenure.

She says perseverance is obviously a strength of hers.

New Zealand shooter Irene van Dyk started her record 200th international and shot 20 from 21 before Catherine Latu took her place in the second half and shot 13 from 13.

The Silver Ferns now play Australia in a three-Test series across the Tasman at the end of the month.
