The Waitakere United football coach Neil Emblen will take charge of the New Zealand under-23 side as it bids to qualify for next year's London Olympics.

The former Wolves, Walsall, Norwich and New Zealand Knights player has acted as a technical assistant in the All Whites camp this year and will take charge of the side for the Olympic qualifiers in Fiji in March.

Emblen's appointment is currently to the end of the nine-team qualification tournament which New Zealand must win to earn Oceania's sole spot at the 16-team finals in London.
