Vettel seals second world title

Sebastian Vettel duly became Formula one's youngest double world champion last night with a third placing at the Japanese Grand Prix, won by his British rival Jenson Button.

The 24 year old German started from pole position needing just one point, or for Button to fail to win, and after he escaped a penalty for edging Button onto the grass from the start, he took no chances to get the finish he needed.

Second place went to Fernando Alonso, who until yesterday had been formula one's youngest double world champion.

Sebastian Vettel, who was dubbed "the crash kid" last year by McLaren's boss Martin Whitmarsh, is the only driver this year to have completed every race.
