The England centre Manu Tuilagi has been fined $6000 by team management after jumping from a ferry in Auckland yesterday.

Tuilagi was detained by police and warned for disorderly conduct after swimming a short distance to a pier at the ferry terminal.

Tuilagi has apologised for the incident saying it was a silly thing to do.

The England rugby union wouldn't comment on whether alcohol was involved in the incident.

The fine will be paid to the Rugby World Cup's Christchurch earthquake appeal.

The 2003 world champions lost in the quarter-finals to France on Saturday, ending a campaign marked by ill-discipline off the field.
