The Silver Ferns netball coach Ruth Aitken has ended her tenure early and been replaced by former New Zealand captain Waimarama Taumaunu.

Aitken was due to finish after the upcoming three test series against Australia but has stepped down prematurely because of family reasons.

Her last test as coach was the win over England in Invercargill last week.

Taumaunu has been appointed on a four year contract taking her through to the 2015 World Netball champs in Australia.

Her first test in charge will be against Australia in a fortnight, in Perth.
