Australia's US Open tennis Samantha Stosur came perilously close to another first round exit before beating a Thai ranked 168th in the world 7-5 in the third set.
Stosur again looked vulnerable after a first round loss in last week's Pan Pacific Open in Japan to Maria Kirilenko, in her first match since her US Open triumph.
