New Zealand Cricket has unveiled an ambitious plan to launch a Twenty20 competition in the United States and sell franchise teams for the event.

It's part of a partnership deal signed by New Zealand Cricket and the United States Cricket Association two years ago to promote the game in North America.

A joint venture company called Cricket Holdings America is recruiting a chief executive officer and Twenty20 League commissioner.

The chief executive of New Zealand Cricket Justin Vaughan says a major part of the role will be to create a new Twenty20 competition and implement a franchising model.
