Former heavyweight champion Haye announces retirement

Former world heavyweight boxing champion David Haye has retired from the sport on his 31st birthday, ruling out future bouts with Ukraine's Klitschko brothers.

Haye says it has been his intention to retire from boxing on his 31st birthday ever since he first laced up his gloves as a skinny 10-year-old.

Haye lost his WBA world title on points to Vladimir Klitschko in a unification bout in his last fight in July - a defeat he blamed on fighting with a broken toe in Hamburg - and he says he can definitely rule out a comeback against Vitaliy Klitschko.

He says he knows fighters who have gone on way too long and he's never wanted to be that guy, and even though he fell short against Vladimir Klitschko he's a two-weight champion and one of the best-ever British boxers.

The British Boxing Board of Control says the Briton is not renewing his licence.

Haye says he's going to become an actor and he'll bring the same dedication to that craft as he did to boxing.
