All Blacks halfback Piri Weepu's resolved to play through the pain of his grandfather's passing and put in another good performance in this weekend's World Cup semi-final against Australia.

Weepu's whanau didn't tell him the bad news until after his man of the match effort in the win over Argentina as they didn't want it to be a distraction, and the 28-year-old admits it's been an emotional week.

He says it was pretty tough coming off the field and seeing that his father was trying to get hold of him, but he's got good support from his team-mates and hopes to have a good game on Sunday.

Weepu says he believes his grandfather will be watching down on him on Sunday.
