Australia beats South Africa in first T20

11:16 am on 14 October 2011

Australia has beaten South Africa by five wickets in the first of two Twenty20 internationals in Cape Town.

The tourists were too sharp for the rusty Proteas, Pat Cummins taking three wickets and Shane Watson blazing his way to man-of-the-match honours.

It was South Africa's first match in seven months and they struggled to 146 for seven thanks to JP Duminy's brilliant 67, but Watson's 52 off 39 balls laid the platform for a comfortable run chase by the Australians.

The second T20 match is in Johannesburg on Sunday.
