The All Black head coach Graham Henry says the opera singer and sports administrator Christropher Doig was one of the most talented individuals he's ever known.

Doig, who died on Thursday after a two-year battle with cancer, was a member of the New Zealand Rugby Union board and a former chief executive of New Zealand Cricket.

Henry spoke about Doig after the All Blacks team-naming news conference in Auckland, saying he'd known him for 50 years after going through primary, intermediate and secondary school with him in Christchurch.

Christopher Doig is survived by his wife and fellow singer Suzanne Prain and four children.
